Christmas Ornaments DIY

One of the things I love about Christmas is decorating the tree.  For me it's a like a little trip down memory lane of Christmas's past.  Each ornament on my tree has a story behind it and I always get lots of warm fuzzy's - it really puts me in the spirit of the season.

Some of my favorite ornaments are the ones that are handmade.  Making your own ornaments is a great way to use up all those fabric scraps you have lying around and can be a great family project too!

Last year I tried my hand at several different ornament projects.

There was the quilted ball ornament,  which is a little time consuming to make, but is well worth the effort because it looks so cool when it's done and makes for a very impressive looking handmade gift.  :-)

I was able to find a quick and easy tutorial here

Some other ideas I came up with on my own was to use some fabric remnants I had left over from a fabric dying experiment.

Try cutting out heart shapes, hand sewing the shapes together and stuffing them with batting or cutting the fabric into strips and decoupaging them to foam balls.  Use leftover twine or ribbon for hanging.

I can't wait to make new ornaments this year.  I've already found some inspiration here, here and here!

Happy Crafting!

  1. Hi Tanya, thanks for getting in touch about the holly decoration featured on my blog. Yes it is okay to include a picture of the project, as long as you link back to the post on my blog and also to the blog of my guest poster, Kirsty, who wrote the tutorial :)
